And I guess the title makes sense because throughout the whole movie the main character's, Javier (Ariel Levy), life just continues to get worse and worse until you want to just punch him in the face to just stop his whining. No seriously. I was ready to punch him in the face.
The movie starts in the fashion or a documentary with talking heads and flashbacks. This slowly fades out as the movie continues, which is fine by me because it was a little annoying to begin with. Anyways, Javier is a artistic director at an ad agency. He just starts dating a singer named Sofia (Lucy Cominetti) and after a very short period tells her he loves her. And how does she respond? By hopping in a taxi cab (seems like a logical response to me).
This doesn't seem to throw him off though because they continue to date seriously (and she does admit that she loves him back) for a few more months. Until he decides out of the blue he no longer loves her and breaks her heart. This is where his life starts to fall apart. Once she starts dating a new guy Javier decides he wants her back and starts acting like a crazy person despite the helpful advice from his best friend Angela (Andrea Velasco), who is always looking out for him. He decides to cope by going out and getting black out drunk every night. Eventually he loses his job, which forces him to lose his apartment and shack up with his new bartender friend (who likes to play "hide it in the mouth"... yup). Needless to say his new housing situation isn't ideal and he moves back in with his mother. Then he gets in a huge fight with Angela after ditching her at a party (that she invited him to) in order to hook up with his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Real winner this guy is. But after the fight he has a realization that he has been a pathetic dick and slowly begins to turn his life around.
The movie is a comedy, however my thoughts on foreign comedies is that a lot of the jokes get a little lost in translation. So it wasn't necessarily pee my pants funny, but it did have its moments.
Rating: **
I loved this movie! The jokes are really funny even by reading the subtitles, as the characters and the situations are so hilarious that are almost genius (e.g. the model freezing while speaking or the joke about Chilean movies during their bar conversation). The only thing that out me off watching the movie for a long time on my Netflix was the title. Maybe they could have chosen something more appealing, that would be my only critic.
