I was definitely on a Chick Flick marathon yesterday. What else am I suppose to watch when I feel like shit. To keep up with tradition we have the original Fever Pitch.
Paul (Colin Firth) is an easy going English teacher in England. He meets the new strict teacher Sarah Hughes (Ruth Gemmell) and the two get off to a great start. Basically they hate each other, so naturally they are going to fall in love because lets face it those are the best kind of relationships. Once they start dating Sarah learns about Paul's love for Arsenal and soon realizes that Arsenal will always come first in his heart and that's fine with her because it hasn't gotten serious yet.
Yet.
When Sarah finds out she is pregnant she wants Paul to start growing up. Paul finally feels like everything is going right in his life. He is up for a promotion at work, he's excited that Sarah is going to have his baby, and Arsenal is looking like they may finally have a shot at winning the title (I honestly know nothing about soccer so I hope that last statement didn't make me sound like a huge idiot). However, when Arsenal loses a match decreasing their chances to make it nearly impossible, Paul blows up. Sarah realizes that he isn't going to change decides to break it off between them.
The story is based off a Nick Hornby book and let's be real, Hornby never seems to have likable leads so once again it's a little hard to get behind the main character. That being said, I love me some Nick Hornby. Now the reason I didn't like this movie as much as I should have is probably my own fault because I was too lazy to turn up the volume to understand what they were saying, which made it hard to see any sort of spark between the characters. One second the girl was like ewww gross never going to happen and then out of the blue she is asking him to spend the night and they are in love. It was strange.
