14. Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Huh.  Well that wasn't what I expected.

First off, I got really confused in the beginning because I thought the ancient civilaztion of Atlantis was being attacked by aliens.  They were flying around on these weird space crafts being chased by a giant wave.  Then while people were fleeing the queen seemed to abducted.  A bright light shone down on her and lifted her into the sky before the island was engulfed in a bubble and swallowed up into the sea.  Hmmm.  Not quite what I was expecting to see but okay let's continue.

It then goes to linguist Milo Thatch (Michael J. Fox!!), who is giving a speech about how they are looking for Atlantis in the wrong area.  He researched an ancient scribe and it turned out they should be looking at Iceland instead of Ireland (rookie mistake).  After the speech he is recruited by Presten Whitmore (John Mahoney), an old friend of his grandfathers, that whats the fund his expedition to Atlantis.  He gives him resources and a crew, which he leads deep into the sea to find the lost city.

When they get there it seems to be a dead city.  Until a series of mishaps has them trapped deep below the surface and Milo gets healed by a stranger in a mask.  He follows the stranger until she leads him to the city, which is somehow above sea level.  The stranger was Atlantis princess, Kida (Cree Summer).  Together they begin to uncover the long forgotten history and secrets of this civilization.  However, the crew has other plans.  They plan to take Atlantis power source, which turns out to be Kida, and sell it for money.  This will also kill everyone living in Atlantis.

The movie was strange.  I thought it would be Greek God-esqe but instead it just seemed like aliens.  So it was a little ridiculous and over the top at times, and at time it seemed like the characters weren't fully developed.  There just seemed to be something missing but I'm not sure what.
