Levi Collins (Chris Sheffield) seems to have everything going for him. He has a group of friends that adore him. An awesome vacation to Mexico planned. And he just received a tennis scholarship for a free ride to college. Unfortunately he failed high school. But he is granted a second chance to receive his diploma by attending summer school.
Scared his parents will find out, he lies to his parents saying he got a summer job and won't be able to go to Mexico. While at school, he begins making friends with the lovable losers that he never noticed before. That and the mysterious new girl Katie (Maiara Walsh). He earns her trust after he saves her from an annoying asshole and his nemesis, Tom (Chad Maden).
It seems like he might pull off his plan until his dad decides he needs to be spending more time on Tennis. He starts signing him up for matches and even has his older brother Brian (Bobby Campo) train him. He tries to manage both but starts showing up late for class. When it comes to his final project he decides to do it on using vegetable oil to fuel his car. But after a mishap ends up in jail the night before he is to present his final project and play Chad on the tennis courts for the scholarship.
The plot to this movie is a little ridiculous. How can parents not know that their child didn't graduate. Wouldn't the school try to contact them at all. And how did he not even realize he was about to fail in the first place. Then if his school doesn't even have a tennis team how to recruiters know to give him a scholarship. He didn't even look like that good of a player. Then how could someone who failed high school science class figure out to fuel his car using vegetable oil? He didn't seem that smart at all. But that being said, I think there were some good-ish performances mainly from Janeane Garofalo who had me laughing with all her little quirks. That and I think I have a soft spot for Bobby Campo. Not really sure why. Maybe because he looks like a love able goofball.
