24. The Inbetweeners Movie

Oh geosh.  I forget how awkward this group is.

The Inbetweeners Movie follows the same foursome as they get ready to celebrate being done with school and going out into the real world and/or upcoming University.

First, let's play catch up with where the show left off (and I haven't seen the show in a couple years so I probably forgot a few things).  Jay's (James Buckley) grandfather died leaving him a huge inheritance that he hopes to spend on ridiculous objects so that he can get laid.  Will (Simon Bird) is still awkward as ever and still trying to figure out the whole talking to girls situation.  Neil (Blake Harrison) has a girlfriend that he works with.  And Simon (Joe Thomas) just got dumped by the love of his life, Carli (Emily Head).  They decide that the best way to spend Jay's money and cheer up Simon would be to go on holiday and where better than Greece.

Sporting some pretty festive Pussay Patrol t-shirts, the make their way to their resort.  A shit hole where you get fined 50 euros every time you shit on the floor.  They go out on the town the first night there and get tricked by a marketing rep to go to this "hopping" bar.  Really they are the only ones there.  At first that is.  Soon a group of four girls come in and they guys dance their way over to talk to them.  Although Simon can't stop talking about Carli, Will's girl has a hot Greek boyfriend, and Neil doesn't know how to talk so he just keeps dancing.  The girls talk about an upcoming all day boat party and how they might be able to get the guys some tickets to it.

Later when the guys leave, they run into Carli.  Turns out Neil asked Carli where she was going to go on holiday because her group of friends always seem to be having fun.  Simon talks to her and tries to win her back but Carli is distracted and says they should hang out at the boat party.  Now that Simon is bent on getting tickets to party, he casually tries and run into the group of girls he met earlier to get tickets.  Needless to say shenanigans happen that make it near impossible for the guys to get tickets to the boat party.  It doesn't help that Simon and Jay have a falling out that splits the group in two.

I know a lot of the comments out there have been how the movie isn't as funny as the TV show but that tends to happen when you stretch what would be a 25 minute show into an hour and a half long movie.  That being said, I thought there were moments of the movie that were hilarious and almost had me in tears.  The dance scene alone is worth watching the whole move.  It was a little cheesey at times and the ending doesn't get much better, and sure it might have been missing the spark that the TV show captured so well, but overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.
