38. Extract

Joel (Jason Bateman) is the owner of an extract company, and he is tired of his boring humdrum life.  His wife, Suzie (Kristen Wiig) hasn't slept with him in months, and the workers are starting to get on his nerves.  He can't wait for the day he gets an offer to sell.

Right when that offer does come in, there is an accident at the factory, and his most loyal worker Step (Clifton Collins Jr.) loses his balls.  Well, I guess just one ball because they were able to attach the other one.  When conartist Cindy (Mila Kunis) reads about the accident in the paper, she comes up with a scheme to get millions of the company.  She seduces Step and convinces him to sue the company.  But in order to get close to Step she first gets a job at the factory.  She flirts with Joel in order to sneak Step's personal information out of his office.

Joel, who is suddenly drawn to the fact that someone wants to sleep with him, confides in his best friend Dean (Ben Affleck).  Dean gives him a tranquilizer to calm him down, and while he is high they come up with a plan to hire a gigalo to sleep with Suzie so that Joel can sleep with Cindy without feeling guilty.  In the morning, when he realizes what he has done tries to stop it but it's too late.  Suzie has already slept with the gigalo.  But now that she has, she feels so guilty that she is trying desperately to get Joel interested in her again.  But he is too upset, and distracted with the law suit that is keeping him from selling the company.

Ahhh at times, this movie just seemed like a cluster fuck with everything going on.  And considering the names attached you would think it would be a funny movie.  But it fell flat.  Like any comedy it maybe had a couple of ha ha moments but there was just something missing.  Or maybe the timing was off.  Or the writing was too over the top.  I'm not quite sure, I just know it wasn't my favorite.
