Don't judge me. But I kind of liked this movie. That being said it isn't for everyone, but if you like movies where there isn't a lot of action and just a bunch of fast talking (Vince Vaughn style) then you may enjoy this film.
It's a pretty simple idea. Ben (Mark Duplass) is a 30ish year old married guy. He's got the girl, the house, and soon to be baby (hopefully they are still in the trying stages). He is woken up in the middle of the night by his college friend Andrew (Joshua Leonard), a bit of a drifter artist type. They agree to let him stay. The next day Andrew meets a girl at a coffee shop and goes home with her. She is another artist in a polyamorous relationship. They invite Ben to their gathering later that night where they proceed to talk about the upcoming Hump Day Festival, a film festival dedicated to making porn artistic again. After lots of drinking and smoking, Ben and Andrew come up with an idea for an artsy porn film. A gay porn done by straight men, especially if the two are friends and are doing it to show there love. The two both agree they would do while they were drunk.
The next day, they finally bring up the conversation and after a battle of "No man! I would f*ck the sh*t out of you!" they decide they should actually do it. There is just one problem, Ben's wife Anna (Alycia Delmore). After an awkward conversation and drunken argument, she allows Ben to make this gay porn film. The next day, they meet up in a hotel room and prepare to make this gay/straight male porno.
As you can tell by the description, there really isn't much action in this movie. It's more of a philosophical movie about art, commitment, fulfillment, and growing older. I also might have liked the film because I was expecting it to be terrible, even though I've sort of been in love with Mark Duplass films lately. And, if you know me, I love love love awkward scenes. And boy, do things get weird at the end. I'm not going to say if they go through with it or not. You'll just have to watch and find out.
