Friday Night Lights meets Jesus Christ. Is it bad that I didn't like this?
Solomon White (Randall Bentley) is your typical high school jock that seems to have it all. He has girls basically throwing themselves at him, tons of friends, and college scholarships from the top ivy league schools. But after suffering a concussion that causes him to see things upside down, he is forced to look at life from a different perspective (hey hey see what I did there?). After getting use to the constant headaches and vertigo, the doctors told him that his vision should just correct himself. In the meantime, he isn't able to play la crosse, is in jeopardy of losing all his scholarships, and doesn't seem to want to hang out with the people he use to. He goes to a sight support group and meets a blind girl, Wren (Leah Sims). He is attracted to Wren because she is fearless. He works up the courage to talk to her and she gives him her number. The two start casually meeting up and talking about their conditions. That is when she starts bringing up faith (and here we go). After a few dates, she decides to take him to church and, after one brief prayer, his vision is back to normal (give me a break). Now Solomon has to decide if he wants to go back to the way he was or keep evolving into the person he wants to be (does that make sense?).
If you disregard the low budget and monotone acting, this could have been a quirky story. But once you start hitting the audience over the head with religion it was done for me. Hey, I'm not a complete cynical person (those this blog makes me sound like one) but it was just too much. I feel like I was back in CCD (now called Faith Formation) being forced to watch cheesy religious movies about how God can cure everything. That's not the real world. Why couldn't they just make it general and have it more spiritually based and not so much GOD IS GREAT based?
