19. Reservoir Dogs

Let me just stat before diving into this that I am not a big Tarantino fan.  I wouldn't even call myself a fan.  I pretty much can't stand him and most of his movies.  Notice how I said most?  That's because I really enjoyed this movie.

Reservoir Dogs is about a group of criminals that come together to rob a diamond store.  In order to protect their identities they use code names (Mr. White, Mr. Blonde, etc.).  However, something goes wrong and the group starts to think there may be "a rat in the house".  They spend the rest of the movie trying to figure out who the rat is.

I think my favorite character is the one that goes crazy, Mr. Blonde.  Although they never show it in the film, he is the one that starts shooting up the diamond store.  And when he gets back to their meeting spot, he is the one that is the most calm while everyone else is flipping shit around him.  Maybe that's why I like him.  And this may make me seem like a twisted individual, but I think the scene where he is torturing the cop may be my favorite scene of the movie.

The acting throughout the movie was pretty decent (even by Tarantino himself -- then again he didn't have a major role).  But, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, Michael Madsen, and even Chris Penn (who I last saw in Corky Romano) did great in their roles.

There were only a few shots that bothered me.  One I think he spliced together so the depth of field was split kind of funky and then the other just had a boom shadow in it.  But otherwise I think he kept things simple for the most part keeping long takes which is great to showcase the actors.  And I loved, loved, loved the soundtrack.  If only Tarantino didn't direct this, then I probably would have watched it a lot sooner.
