Most of you know the story of Huckleberry Finn, but just in case here is the movie synopsis.
Huckleberry Finn (Jeff East) lives with an old widow and her sister. He came into a bit of money and the judge put it in a trust until Huck is older. When his drunk Pap (Gary Merrill) finds out about the money he kidnaps Huck. Huck fakes his own death to escape his abusive drunk father. He hides out on an island but is bit by a snake.
When he comes to, he finds out that Jim (Paul Winfield) took care of him while he was unconcious and probably saved his life. He tells Huck that everyone thinks he is dead. Jim, overheard the widow talking about selling him so she could get money for Huck's ransom. When he found that out he ran away and has also been hiding out on the island. The two decide to team up and raft their way to Cairo, Illionois where Jim can get his freedom and Huck can live his carefree life.
That's the short version of the story. This adaptation was a musical (and no there was no n**ger Jim song). Despite being a musical, and the story of Huckleberry Finn (which I enjoyed reading in high school), I thought the movie was pretty boring. The scenes were over-acted and only one or two songs were actually catchy. The rest I forgot about all ready. Plus, I'm pretty sure they changed the ending.
