Ironically I seem to know all the songs from this movie, but have never watched it until now. Perhaps my Muppet themed keyboard from childhood has something to do with this (Thanks Mom!!)
Singing and playing the banjo in the Florida swamp lands, Kermit the Frog (Jim Henson) meets a Hollywood agent (Dom DeLuise!!). He is then persuaded to follow his dreams and go to Hollywood to sing and dance and spread joy around the world (classic Kermit). He starts out on the road and meets up with Fozzie Bear (Frank Oz) and after a dance routine Fozzie joins up with him. It's during this dance routine that the villainous Doc Hopper (Charles Durning), who wants to open a chain of frog legs restaurants, sees Kermit and wants him to be his spokesperson (spokesfrog?). He starts following Kermit relentlessly. Kermit, meanwhile, keeps meeting other muppets and having them join his journey across the country. Doc Hopper decides to hire a professional frog hunter to kill Kermit, so he can turn him into his puppet (weird). They corner Kermit and his gang at an old ghost town and Kermit decides to go out and face his maker.
I figured it was time to watch a light hearted movie since the rest were on the serious side, and the Muppets did not fail. I like the songs, colors, and the silliness that the Muppets present. Plus it's fun trying to guess what celebrity will appear next. However, some of the jokes were a little dated, but that's going to be true of any comedy made in the 70s. I love the songs, RAINBOW CONNECTION and Moving Right Along. Brought back some pleasant childhood memories. Not the most compelling story, but it was interesting to see how they all came together in the movie. I think I still like The Muppets with Jason Segal better, but that might be because I love Jason Segal.
