21. Take This Waltz

Is there no such thing as platonic friendship?

Happily married Margot (Michelle Williams) meets Daniel (Luke Kirby) during an adulterous slashing (you'll have to watch to get that joke). Later they bump into each other again while flying back to Toronto. During the flight you see an instant connection between the two as they discuss fears. Margot has a fear of connections and not knowing what to do when in the middle (foreshadowing perhaps?). Later they share a cab and, SURPRISE, they turn out to be neighbors. Just what Margot wanted to find out (sarcasm).

Margot is married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a cook book writer focusing on chicken, and even though when Lou is first introduced he seemed to be smothering her (literally was hugging her to the point she looked pained) it actually is the opposite. Margot is constantly hugging and touching and seducing and being annoying as shit while Lou is trying to work (maybe a guilty conscience has something to do with it).

Meanwhile, Margot and Daniel start a stalky relationship (taking turns stalking each other) that is full of sexual tension. But because he is a gentlemen (they do exist in real life?) and she loves her husband, nothing happens. So she makes an appointment with Daniel. She tells him to meet her in thirty years and 2:00 pm and they will finally kiss. But, come on. Do you really think they can wait 30 years?

I had a few problems with this film (and no the old lady shower scene is not on the top of the list). First off, that girl is crazy. Okay, so you meet a handsome stranger that you connect with who happens to be your neighbor. She doesn't even try to be his friend and instantly goes into this weird flirting/stalking behavior. Secondly, you're married to a chef who is specializing in chicken recipes. Who doesn't chicken? Maybe if you're a vegetarian or vegan (yikes) but honestly chickens are creepy and people should eat more of them. Third, even with her weird childlike banter with Lou he never seemed annoyed with her. And if I was him I probably would of broken up with her years ago! Don't put your fingers in my mouth when I'm on the phone with my boss!! Plus he is absolutely adorable with his little jokes and what not. That being said, I didn't really buy Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen as a couple. They seemed more like really good friends, and maybe that was the point, but then again there didn't seem to be a time where you really felt like they belong together to the point where they got married. Also, the ending of this movie lasted way too long. I thought it was over and then it went on for another fifteen to twenty minutes. But other than that it wasn't too bad. It had moments where I laughed and I was curious to see if she was going to cheat or not. It's a little refreshing to watch a movie based around if she will cheat rather than already cheated and have to deal with the consequences.
