61. The Puffy Chair

For Josh's (Mark Duplass) dad's birthday, he found the perfect gift.  It's an exact replica of his father's favorite red Burgundy lazy boy from his childhood.  He found it online and decides to drive across country to pick it up.  After getting into an argument with his girlfriend Emily (Katie Aselton), he decides to bring her along with him.  This seems to smooth things over for now.  On the way to Virginia to pick up the chair, they stop to say hello to Josh's brother Rhett (Rhett Wilkins).  Rhett is the free spirited (hippie?) impulsive brother.  When he finds out about Josh's plans he decides to go with because he hasn't gotten anything for his father's birthday (but that's okay, because the gift will be himself).

When they arrive in Virginia to pick up the chair, they find that it is nothing like the description online.  It's old and crummy and looks like someone might of died while sitting on it.  The seller tells him they will get it reupholster and he can pick it up in the morning.  They decide to waste time in this small town by going to a movie.  While at the movie Rhett meets Amber (Julie Fischer).  He ends up going home with her.  Later that night, Josh and Emily decide to see how Rhett is doing.  When they get there, Rhett tells him he is in love with Amber and decides that they should get married.  They get married right then and there with Josh performing the ceremony (if that is possible?).  They leave the newlyweds and go back to their hotel room.  Emily brings up the future and they get into a huge argument (maybe this is why Emily later goes on to marry his friend and ambush his fantasy football league).

Although there isn't a lot that happens in this movie, the characters are pretty likable.  Except the girl anyways.  Why do they always make women seem crazy in movies?  I get being annoyed with things but she is like storming off or creating a scene.  Not all women are crazy!  Just most of them.  But they did have some really good moment in there.  I don't know why, but I just wish I had a friend like Rhett (or could be him myself).  He just seems like so much fun.

Rating: *** (I may be a sucker for Mark Duplass)
