Sam (Michael Angarano), a children's book writer, ropes his friend Marshall (Reece Thompson) into a weekend getaway. Marshall thinks its just a fun trip to hang out with his friend but Sam has a hidden agenda. Sam drags Marshall to spy on a party going on but when they run into Teddy (Jake Johnson) they get invited to the party. That's where Sam notices Zoe (Uma Thurman). When he approaches Zoe she tells him he shouldn't be there. While she is trying to get him to leave, they are interrupted by Whit (Lee Pace). Whit explains the joyous news of the party. That he and Zoe are getting married. Sam, taken aback, doesn't know how to react but Whit decides to invite them to the ceremony and even offers them a room in their house.
Marhsall notices that there seems to be something going on between Sam and Zoe. When he questions him, Sam denies everything. He then goes a pulls Zoe into a closet so he can kiss her. So obviously he was lying. He tries to make her jealous and starts talking to loner girl Margaret (Brooke Bloom). It must have worked because later that night she goes to his room, but with no intention of hooking up. But if she really had no intention she wouldn't have even shown up.
The next day while Marshall is digging through the luggage, he comes across an Altoids box with a very modest wedding ring inside. He goes down to the beach to find Sam but he doesn't see the glass buried in the sand and steps on it. Zoe tends to his wounds and they get to talking. That's when Marshall spills the beans about Sam bringing a ring.
I think my favorite part of this movie was the cast. Jake Johnson and Lee Pace were hilarious, a bit eccentric but that was their character. The other thing that was refreshing was that even though this is a story about a guy trying to steal away a girl, it was more about the friendship between Sam and Marshall. Other than that though the movie wasn't anything special or breathtaking, but it wasn't bad either.
