Nothing like a little bit of Zack Morris to get you into the holiday spirit.
It's the day before Christmas and Kate Stanton (Amy Smart) is doing some last minute Christmas shopping for an ex-boyfriend she wants to win back later that night. As she tries to leave the store, she is bombarded by perfume girls. Maybe it's too much scent at once, but as the last girl spritzes her with perfume she faints. When she comes too, she is embarrassed and quickly leaves the store. She returns home to get ready for a blind date that he stepmother arranged. Her overly friendly neighbor gives her a Christmas gift of some sort of fruit cake looking thing. She quickly gets ready and heads off to meet her blind date.
When she gets to the bar, she immediately sees a dweeby looking man. Turns out he is there to meet someone else. Relieved, she finds out that her blind date is behind the dweeby man. She meets Miles (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) who is sweet and nice. Kate on the other hand doesn't even give him the time of day. She answers a phone call less than five minutes in from her ex-boyfriend and ditches Miles to be with him.
She meets up with her ex, Jack (Benjamin Ayres), and after some small talk his girlfriend comes up to them. Shaken, Kate still gives Jack the present that he got him and awkwardly says goodbye. She goes to her father's house afterwards to celebrate Christmas Eve and tells him and his wife that she is destined to be alone forever. That night, she falls asleep watching the home shopping channel and right before midnight a pair of Christmas Partridge earrings are for sale. At the stroke of midnight time goes backwards and she wakes up on the floor of the department store from earlier that day.
Like a holiday version of Groundhog Day but with half of the chemistry and cleverness. Kate isn't that likable in the beginning of the movie. First, she is delusional thinking that she is going to get back together with her ex even though they haven't seen each other or talked in months. Then when she finds out he has a girlfriend and she gets another chance to impress him on Christmas Eve she tries to steal him away. And I'm suppose to be on her side? The girl seems crazy. Secondly, she doesn't even give Miles (beautiful and charming Zack Morris, I mean Miles) a chance. She just brushes him off and its not until their third or fourth encounter that she actually starts getting to know him. However, there are moments that were funny in a cheesy ABC Family over the top way. It's not their worse Christmas movie (they have a lot of bad ones) but if I loved Christmas, I would probably think this movie was decent.
