I thought The Vicious Kind was going to be an amazing film because Adam Scott was such a huge prick in the beginning (does anyone else remember the old days when you could find him as smooth talking Griff on Boy Meets World?) However, you find he's just sleep deprived (not as cool).
Caleb (Adam Scott) hasn't been able to sleep in weeks, which seems a little scary given the fact he went to pick up his brother Peter (Alex Frost) from school. It's Thanksgiving break and Peter is bringing home his girlfriend Emma (Brittany Snow), who happens to look astonishingly similar to Caleb's ex-girlfriend. When they arrive at their father's house (J.K. Simmons. Two in one day!) Caleb parks at the back of the driveway. Turns out he hasn't spoken to his father in almost 8 years even though they only live two miles apart.
Around town Caleb keeps running into Emma and feel some sort of connection to her, even though he threatens her life if she breaks Peter's heart (literally threaten, was choking her and everything). Later that night, when Emma sneaks out to smoke a cigarette she sees Caleb lurking around the house. He says he came to apologize and quickly leaves. Later that night, Caleb is finally able to sleep (well only 45 minutes, but baby steps people). The next day, Caleb, Emma, and Peter go out to eat. While Peter is in the bathroom, Caleb forces a kiss on Emma.
The movie wasn't too bad. The acting was pretty good from everyone but Brittany Snow just can't seem to break out of those sweet innocent types. Or at least the type that looks sweet and Innocent. They also seem to hate women in this movie (or at least at the beginning) so that was a little annoying. But otherwise I thought it was interesting. I was more curious about Adam Scott's character than all the other ones (I found the Peter character to seem really fake). And, since it is an indie movie, there were times where you like, "gahh really? c'mon!" but indie movie doesn't have you doing that at some point?
