3. The Big Gay Musical

Ahhh yeah.  Big Gay Musical.  It's exactly what it sounds like.  A movie about actors in an off Broadway musical.  There really isn't a complicated plot.  Basically the two stars of an off Broadway musical, "Adam and Steve: Just the Way God Made Them", try to figure out who they are and problems that they have.  The first star Adam/Paul (Daniel Robinson) is trying to fulfill his gay American dream.  Find love, get married, have 2.5 kids, and a home in the Hampton's.  But after someone tells his almost boyfriend that he is HIV positive, he decides that maybe he should just give up on relationships and become a slut.  The other star, Steve/Eddie (Joey Dudding), is new to the New York scene.  He is still a virgin and hasn't even broke the news to his parents that he is gay. That is basically the gist of the plot. From there it goes back and forth between the off Broadway production and Paul and Eddie's real lives.

First let me start by saying that Daniel Robinson is soooo hot. It may be because he reminds me of a gay Ryan Hurst from Remember the Titans (Bertier). I don't care if he is gay or not in real life but he should just keep doing whatever it is that he is doing. That being said, pretty sure that all the main actors in this movie prefer the stage over film. The scenes they excelled in were the ones that were the musical parts. Otherwise it felt very fake. I don't know whether it's the writing or the acting but it was flat and over the top. Also, the color correction during the real life scenes seemed off and was bothering me (sorry film student). I almost wish that they just cut all the real scenes out and just had it be the musical. I was much more invested in that. It doesn't help that the real life moments felt like an after school special. Which leads me to my next thought. Is it really that easy for gay men to hook up??? Maybe it's a New York thing. Literally there was a scene were Paul sat down and a guy offered to "suck him off". He didn't even have to do anything!

I realize this review has been very brief, but I feel like I have touched on all the major points. If you enjoy musicals and sexual innuendos, you will definitely be entertained by the musical portions of the movie. But overall, its a low budget film that looks and feels like a low budget film.

On a side note, the beginning of the movie kind of made me feel as if I were a gay man myself so kudos to you, filmmakers!
